Snow and ice grip the English Riviera

Writer's picture: lexienewlexienew

The first day of Spring brought with it snow, ice, freezing rain and flooding to the English Riviera as a combination of Storm Emma and the so called 'Beast from the East' hit. Despite the chilly conditions, I decided to brave the elements and head out for some frozen photography.

Walking around in the snow you notice how quiet the world seems, the silence of the snow was broken this morning by the sound of tinkling icicles. Branches looked as though they should be on a Christmas Tree, buds, blossom and new shoots were encased in a freezing cocoon. When the wind blew, the ice branches danced together creating a beautiful melody.

Snowy Vista

This panorama, a combination of three photographs stitched together to encompass the whole vista, was taken from the top of Torquay looking towards Dartmoor, which is hidden by the clouds.

Frozen Ivy berries look almost like they could be frogspawn.

To top off a very wintry day at the start of Spring, a beautiful Fieldfare found the only berries on the bushes not covered in ice allowing me to snap some photos.
