Upcoming projects

Spider diagrams are my arch-rival. No matter how many I make, I always keep making them. On paper, whiteboards, notes on my phone, ideas in my head that never make it onto paper.

Some of these ideas however, I do keep coming back to…. ‘On the Edge’ is the title of my next project – although between you and me, that will probably change before the end of this blog! This year I’m going to focus on nature that clings to life – whether its limpets in a storm clinging to the rocks or plants seemingly growing out of nothing – how do they do that?! Hopefully this project will dump me firmly outside my comfort zone.

The idea

A collection of images looking at how nature can beat even the most difficult of conditions to not only survive but thrive

The execution

Using macro and wide angle photography together to create a sense of place of the subject; it’s not just a plant, it’s a plant on the side of a rock with no visible soil around, it’s a bird nesting in the crevice of a cliff that gets battered by the wind and sea.

Revisiting old flames

Four years ago, I carried out a very extended study of wetlands for my dissertation – the amazing combination of light and water creates such beautiful patterns. This is a project I feel extremely passionate about and is something I want to revisit and continue working on. I feel that I left the project in pause mode. There is scope for so much more, potential to expand my understanding of this habitat and the species that live there. Since seeing photos of the Camargue in France, I have wanted to visit to photograph the horses and the flamingos. The Florida everglades would just be a fantastic adventure. But that will take time (and money) so for now I will stick to the good old UK – the goal – Otters!
